We were delighted to have had the opportunity to work with Survive, a North Yorkshire based organisation to help them improve identify improvements to their workplace for neurodivergent employees
Survive contacted us as part of our Thriving at Work programme, where we offered workplace needs assessments to business across the North Yorkshire area. Our trainer met with Survive to understand their needs and arranged a site visit where we conducted a thorough needs assessment, followed up with a series of meetings to discuss the findings and identify ways in which Survive could make changes to their everyday practices.
“Survive has benefitted hugely from the Thriving at Work programme. And it has transformed how we look after current and prospective employees.
Completing the Workplace diagnostic assessment tool showed us the areas that we needed to focus the most on. Working with Luke and having regular meetings gave the project the momentum it needed to take Survive on this journey.
Becoming Disability Confident committed gave the organisation a focus and we provided managers with specific training around mental health at work and making reasonable adjustments in the workplace.
Our annual staff survey now includes sections about mental health which enables us to put measures in place in areas where the survey shows this is needed.
Luke delivered an interactive and informative session on Neurodiversity in April 2023 at our Team training day which enabled participants to share their experiences and to learn how they could better support neurodivergent colleagues and clients.
Prospective employees have commented on how they felt able to apply for a role with Survive once they had read about how we support all employees with a disability, and that they felt able to discuss their needs at interview stage. The guaranteed interview scheme has been a success and has encouraged more candidates with disabilities to apply for roles at Survive.
When we completed the Workplace diagnostic assessment tool at the end of the project it was amazing to see how far we had come and how mental health awareness is now at the heart of our organisation.
We would encourage all organisations to take up the offer of support from Autism Plus, it will benefit your prospective, new and current employees and will change how you provide services to your clients too.”
