Alex lives with his son and younger sister. He has worked previously at Specsavers as a lab technician, but he found the work not to his liking after a while. His hope was to move into something that has a career path and progression opportunities. Alex is quite able with technology and was keen to look at options to use these skills in work. He has been out of work over a year, and needed a role to fit around his childcare commitments and close to his home to allow him to be home when needed.
Alex was referred through the IAPT service because he has struggled with his mental health due to the pressures of becoming the sole parent. He felt ready to start work but doesn’t have the confidence to apply for work after his recent experiences.
We supported Alex to overcome his barriers, working through a plan and putting in place strategies to help in different situations, then moved on to support with applications and interview practice. Alex was delighted to be offered an interview for laboratory technician that was full time weekdays only. He was nervous to attend the interview but put in place his strategies and was so happy to be offered the job. The job fits perfectly for him, local to where he lives and it works around his childcare needs.
