When Joe came to our service he was off work on long term sick and had lost a lot of confidence, and struggling to see a way back.
Our team supported Kit to look at barriers to employment, this included looking at reasonable adjustments and application forms. We looked at traits of ADHD and identified the ones that Kit identified with and how these might present in a workplace.
Jordan successfully gained a part time role working for Heron Frozen Foods. We are continuing Jordan’s support through Access to Work and Jordan feels this has been beneficial.
Our trainer met with the senior team initially to discuss their circumstances and it was decided that a site visit for a workplace needs assessment would be beneficial. In this case, the needs assessment would not be focused on an individual employee but focused on the business as a whole.
Toby is keen to combine his self-employed gardening work with selling his artwork and would also like to look into eco gardening. He would also like to run art sessions at Autism Plus to promote social skills and improve mental health for our clients.
Sara now feels a lot more capable of looking for jobs independently and being more ready for a job interview. She has now obtained a permanent place to live and she has a support worker that helps her during the week.
Cameron first came to Autism Plus in March 2023 accessing our Sheffield based employability project for autistic adults. Cameron had been unemployed over a year when he came to us for support in finding paid employment.
Creating inclusivity through training and workplace needs assessment We were delighted to have had the opportunity to work with Survive, a North Yorkshire based organisation to help them improve identify improvements to their workplace for neurodivergent employees.
We helped Fabian to talk about his anxieties and found coping methods that helped to ease them. We then developed a person-centred plan focusing on Fabian’s goals and aspirations, looking to the future and what he hoped to achieve.
While Jack has a wonderfully descriptive – and very relevant – analogy for autism – that has not always been the case. He struggles through school with undiagnosed autism, leaving him facing an uncertain future. His mum’s perseverance led to a diagnosis at 16 years old and an explanation as to why he found school so difficult.
Ashley received support from Autism Plus Specialist Employment Team, who worked closely with him to build his confidence and identify the type of volunteering opportunities he would be interested in.
